British or American English?
« pada: 30 April 2008, 06:46:15 »
Which one do you prefer to, British or American English, both in speaking and writing?

I prefer to American than British. I don't know why, but from the first time I learnt English, I already used American (well, maybe because the textbooks I used were American, so...). I can hear American speech better than British (aside from a fact that I'm currently working with an American, so I hear American English often :D). British is just so... hard to hear :P

For me, American English. The reason?! I don't know. Maybe because American English is easy listening or maybe anybody have another reason? I just like to learn things that easy for me. Maybe because of that.

For me, American English too.
I took a course in AELI (American English Language Institute) for about 6 years and the teacher is an American, perhaps that's why I prefer American English.
And Exshan's right, British is just so hard to hear, but I've trained by listening to movies *without the subtitle* ^^.
By the way, when you're writing, British is harder too. Anyone realize that "center" is just "center" in American English and become "centre" in British?
